Real-time or seasonal pellet purchase

Which makes more sense – to buy the entire supply of pellets before the heating season, or to buy it on an on-going basis, several times a year?

There is no uniform answer to this question, and practices among users differ widely, but here are some factors that will help you make a decision.

The prices of pellets are not uniform throughout the year, and tend to be the lowest towards the end of the heating season and in the summer months, before rising again at the transition into autumn.

The pellet delivery cost speaks in favour of a one-time order, which is much lower in such cases, as is the environmental impact.

Whether you order pellets for the entire season or buy them as you go also depends on the availability of space for the high-quality storage of the whole year’s supply. It’s vital to store the pellets in a dry place, where there are no major temperature fluctuations and, from a practical point of view, as close as possible to the boiler.

In line with the growing use of wood pellets as an energy source not only in Slovenia, but also throughout Europe, it can be expected that this will also have an impact on the provision of the necessary quantities of pellets. In Slovenia, too, household and industrial needs exceed domestic production, and thus some of the demand for pellets is covered by imports, which, given current political events, may become less feasible or be less competitively priced.
